I met a terrific group of people at Michelle and Nick’s wedding in Big Sur (blog post coming soon). Two of whom are these two: Pearl and Chris. Both are incredibly easy to get along with (and had the same joyful exuberance coming out that I saw in Michelle and Nick during their engagement shoot). Even though that coastal layer invaded our photos, Pearl and Chris couldn’t stop grinning. It caused me realize that the warmth that comes through in these engagement sessions doesn’t come from the sunshine. Such a joy to photograph you two!
The wedding industry in San Luis Obispo is nuts. You’ve gotta get started early to lock in us vendors! Fortunately, Cassie and Taylor were on the ball. I met with them to talk about their wedding a year and a half before their wedding (perhaps that doesn’t sound like a long wait to you, but here I am twiddling my thumbs until then). Four months later, we took their engagement photos and at the close of the shoot, they said “Welp, see ya in a year.” (I think there might’ve even been some tears. Can’t recall.)
That year went by. And then this happened. And this was very fun. I like Cassie and Taylor a lot and felt very much at home during their wedding. My favorite quote from their wedding came from one of their friends, talking about how much Taylor cares for Cassie. “It seems likes he’s constantly asking if she needs any water.” If that’s not love, I don’t know what is.
A couple days before Bobby and Valerie’s beach wedding, I got to reconnect with a dear old friend who’d moved out of the state. Turns out, he was in California for Bobby and Valerie’s wedding. It had totally slipped my mind that I might be seeing many of the good old boys from my high school days.
Bobby was often an integral part of our high school shenanigan-izers. More often than not, when there was a risky activity that we all wanted someone to do, Bobby was always there… willing… semi-willing… or easily manipulated and coerced into doing it. (Thanks, Bobby.) That’s probably why he was so attracted to Valerie. She’s so sweet, caring, and loving… Probably not the kind of person that would try to launch him headfirst through commercial ceiling tiles, or sling him on a rolling office chair over concrete. (*Sigh* Love…)
I was so excited about their big day. And they didn’t disappoint me (because every wedding I photograph is really about me…). All the key ingredients for a good wedding were there: great people, celebratory beverages, and earnest love. Bobby, Val: your wedding was beautiful. Thanks for letting me celebrate with you!
